City Biodiversity Index

The government of Singapore took the lead in 2008 to develop a city biodiversity index jointly with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Four years on, and the index has entered into the testing phase, with Hong Kong being one of the 76 cities that is volunteering data to evaluate and refine the index. HK at CBD

The biennial Convention on Biological Diversity’s Conference of the Parties started its high level ministerial sessions today, in Hyderabad, India, and will last until the 19 October. This is the first time Hong Kong can send an official delegation, since the Convention was extended to HKSAR in 2011. With 193 states that are a party to the Convention, there are plenty of global benchmarks for Hong Kong to learn from.
